Some Fires

The last few weeks, we have been putting out fires.  Not literally, thank God.  But just tending to annoying little things that have required our attention in an immediate and inconvenient sort of way.  There has been a broken car, and then the purchase of a new car, a minor domestic public health emergency, and some general feeling under the weather.  Isn't it funny how these things just seem to happen all at once?

Well, the good news is that (knock on wood) we seem to have put out the fires.  And the rest of the good news is that even amid such peskiness, life goes on in its beautiful and funny way.  Even on days that dinner was thrown on the table and Ben and I collapsed in bed at the end of a long day, we could look back on the day and smile and laugh as we recalled Hugo chasing the "ba-bun!" (his way of saying bunny) in our front yard, or the girls dressed in veils prancing around the garden, or any number of  other little things that bring us joy.

Those cinnamon rolls were made late at night when I realized we had no. food. for. breakfast.  No cereal, no bread.  Weekly grocery trips seem to be the early casualty of unexpected life events.  But miraculously we had ingredients for cinnamon rolls.  See?  Sometimes these busy things result in something much better than usual.  Everything still remains in a state of being entirely undone: the house, the yard, the laundry (hm... the laundry is actually always in such a state.  One day I'll figure it out).  And I am trying hard, learning even, not to care.
