Yarn Along

Here's my knitting just as I found it: splayed on the couch, with needles sticking every which direction. Knitting on double pointed needles really is like wrestling an octopus, isn't it? But all that aside, I am thrilled to report that my tiny tea leaves for Zosia is almost done. Just the rest of one sleeve, some buttons, and some blocking. And just one more to go, and my knitting goals for the season have been met (and I start on my really big project: a winter sweater for Ben!).

Here's the sweater after I went over and tidied it up a bit, along with some books. These days I am up to my ears in early childhood education books. I'm re-reading everything I've read, discovering new books and trying to get a little bit of vision for what I want education to look like for these little ones. I love Montessori, love reading aloud to them (a la Charlotte Mason), and love Waldorf-style education, but don't really fall into any one category. I guess at the end of the day, you read all you can and then just do what you know best.

What are you knitting? Do you have any recommendations for resources about early childhood education? What style of education do you use with your kiddos?

Joining along with the Yarn Along again!

Look at you! You've zoomed through that sweater. Which sweater are you making for Ben?

The tea leaves cardi is beautiful! Almost there. Looking forward to seeing which sweater pattern you choose for the big sweater.

The sweater is beautiful. I think in terms of schooling, it's okay to be a little bit of everything. I love Charlotte Mason and parts of the others you mentioned along with other styles as well. My children are older now, but if I was able to do it again, I'd probably lean to a mixed approach using the things you mentioned. Don't we all learn through different ways?

DPN's are interesting at the best of times, but throw children into the mix, and I'm a nervous wreck!! Looks lovely.

Hi Adele--Your little sweater is knitting up so beautifully. I love that color and it looks like it will be perfect in time for fall.

We are starting homeschooling this year and I think we are going to be doing a mix of Charlotte Mason and Waldorf. I love both of them but am not as structured as Charlotte Mason or as unstructured as Waldorf so we are in the same boat!

the sweater is adorable. what a gem. as for education in my world? so far i like to think of it as eclectic. i am the same, lots of ideas are great, but no one works exactly for me or my kids. i tend to piece stuff together from each and even some classical education too. i think the key is that if WE find the learning fascinating, they will too. period.

good luck!

Sarah Jane: I am smitten with this sweater, so I think I might give it a try:

It's so wonderful to hear from all of the other eclectic schoolers out there! We aren't a strictly homeschooling family: Z will be in preschool three mornings a week. But I do firmly believe that most learning happens at home, and appreciate all your advice!
