Yarn Along

This week I have been getting my yarn ready for Zosia's fall sweater. I now have three skeins of grapefruity pink yarn ready for knitting save for a bit of leftover dampness (I think I will make her a tiny tea leaves, which looks just adorable!). I used some instructions I found for dying yarn with food coloring (just a little different than the other instructions I used a few months ago), and it worked well. I must admit, I am still quite a novice and have a hard time controlling the end results, but that is sort of the beauty of the whole yarn dying process-- the unexpected results!

And in the reading department, I am between books, so above is Ben's current reading selection: The Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway.

Don't you love that little icon in the back? A friend brought it back to me from the Holy Land, and I absolutely *love* the way Mary is sort of releasing Jesus into the world. I must admit, I can relate to the feeling of having to release a little one into the world, and I can attest to the fact it is not nearly as easy as this Mary makes it look!

Be sure to check out the rest of the yarn along!

Oh that picture! Such a lovely little composition! I loved knitting the Tiny Tea Leaves. I hope you enjoy it too! Your yarn is beautiful. I am planning a yarn dyeing party with a couple girlfriends in the very near future. I'll have to check out the method you used!

Oh. That pattern is beautiful! If only I had a girl to knit for. I'm surrounded by boys.http://www.karmama.ca/2011/08/yarn-along_17.html

Ah! I haven't read Hemingway short stories since high school. Did you see Midnight in Paris? The newish Woody Allen movie. Impressive dyeing!

I am impressed that you are dying your yarn-- the color is lovely!

Yes, we do have to release our children--but we never stop being mom. I am enjoying the adult relationship with my grown kids. And then there is the role of grandma (its the best!)

Oh it certainly is not that easy...

That is so neato that you are dying your own yarn. I dyed some play silks a couple years ago but have not ventured into yarn dying yet.

In truth, the yarn dyeing (not dying! Oh, my spelling is atrocious!) was less creative burst and more thriftiness- I had some white thrift store yarn and realized that new yarn can get quite expensive! In the end it was such a fun project, I'm thrilled I gave it a try.

Carol, I am so relieved to hear you say that! I think us young mothers can have a hard time imagining all of the transitioning roles of motherhood, but what you say is so true: we ARE always their mothers, no matter how grown up they start seeming!

What a beautiful color! I have some white yarn that I bought intending to dye and haven't dyed it yet -- maybe soon. Thanks for the inspiration, and enjoy your Tea Leaves!
