A Little Cap Sleeved Nightgown

I have been slowing down these past few days. I mean, slooooowing down. Which is just my body's way of getting plenty of rest before the birth, I know.

I have been making the most of my newfound snail's pace: getting those last few supplies ready for the birth (can I give a word of thanks to online shopping?), reading lots of books to the children, and sitting down by the sewing machine to get a couple little gifts done before the baby comes.

I am planning to spend many of the baby's first days in a nightgown: something comfortable and easy to nurse in that will serve as a reminder that I don't need to go anywhere. My job is to nestle in close to a new baby, rest, and bond. That's something it has taken me a few pregnancies and births to figure it out, but I get it now: those first few days and weeks are nature's way of ensuring both mama and baby's health (and joy).

Since I'm just about done with a present for Lily (a blanket I hope to share here one day soon!), I figured I would make something special but easy for my resident little mama of the house: that precious (almost) four year old who seems to be as integral to the household functioning as any grown up. And what can be better than something to match the real mama? I stumbled upon this tutorial and thought it was perfect: and of course I had a thrifted bed sheet on hand (have I ever had a sewing project that didn't use one of these?). Zosia loves it, although I will caution that the tutorial claims to be 4T, but really runs closer to a 3T. I just love those little cap sleeves! So cute!

Oh, Adele, you're so right. A little momma she is. The nightgown is beyond gorgeous. You're so talented! And all done while "slowing down"-- you're amazing. Hugs all around.

Really, nightgown. You mean the clothes that no one sees you in except those who love you anyway. I'm just sayin' that would pass for an adorable dress! Is there something that makes it a nightgown and not a dress?

Yes, Michelle, you know Zosia well. :-) I think my parenting load will be significantly lighter this time around because of her! XO

Rachel, no, as far as Zosia is concerned there is absolutely no difference-- much to my delight, she's been wearing it around the clock (although I wanted to make something that would be a little lighter than her traditional pajamas for her to sleep in now that it's warming up). Now if only adult nightgowns were as versatile and socially acceptable...
