The Birth of a Father

Holding your first baby always comes as a bit of a shock. I mean, what do you do with this thing?

And then, somehow, with time, you start easing into the role of parent. You learn the simple lessons, like the value of going with the flow.

You learn to delight in new experiences,

and the fact that your two arms can actually hold two babies.

Or that your two arms can hold one toddler, while your back holds a baby.

You learn how to be an amazing play partner,

adventure partner,

and a very funny teller and listener of secrets.

And then one day someone like, say, your wife, will be looking at you and utter: "My, but isn't he the most natural father?"

And that you are, my dear.

This brought tears to my eyes, Adele. Not only do you write so eloquently, but you've truly captured the essence of not only Ben, but both of your parenting styles. Clearly Evan and I have a lot to learn from you guys if we ever care to deem ourselves fit to parent. I mean look, we couldn't even get the girls to the party without forgetting their "unmentionables." Love you guys!

Oh my I do agree that Ben is a natural at his role as dada, but you too my dear are a natural too. I makes me happy to catch a glimpse of you two in action. Can't wait to see the five of you soon.

What a nice post about the daddy of your three kids. He does look like a natural!

Thanks, Annie! I was just looking at pictures of Lily right after she was born, and was tickled to find a few that included you and the boys. We can't wait to see you soon!
