This one has given us a run for our money in the picky department. Food? Who needs food? He's happy to survive on love and adventure. When I was a new mother a few years ago, I remember reading a Dr. Sears book that discussed picky toddler eaters (don't you love that man?). He suggested taking an ice cube tray, filling it with various foods (fruit, cheese, crackers) and then leaving it out for your toddler to graze on.
As it so happened, our first two were very enthusiastic and even adventurous eaters. We never had to worry about it. But Hugo. Oh, Hugo. The current rule in the house is that Hugo gets just about whatever he wants to eat whenever he wants it, because this boy just does not care about food. We actually tried preparing our own version of a peanut butter mix used to fatten up children in developing countries (thanks, Irene!) to no avail. He's just a skinny little thing. Don't worry darling Hugo, you're just fine.
Current foods that are tolerated include scrambled eggs, rice, strawberries, and cereal. And of course everything tastes better when you feed yourself.
Any tips from moms and dads of picky eaters?

If he'll do rice, will he try quinoa? Similar texture going on there and a good source of protein. What about smoothies, especially if he gets to make them? Some of the picky eaters I've worked with would drink any type of smoothie as long as it was a bit sweet and their favorite color. :) Just a few thoughts.
My two youngest boys are like that. Picky eaters and very skinny (but healthy). My oldest will eat anything and everything. He was fairly picky when he was younger, though.
I love that their are bacon and eggs on his shirt smiling...the irony is beautiful!
He hasn't been a fan of quinoa (but does do pasta, so maybe I could try a quinoa based pasta?). Smoothies sound genius! I will try one this afternoon.
Ben and I were also pretty picky and pretty skinny as babies, so I'm afraid our genetics are at fault. :-) Isn't it amazing how different children can be from one another?
Rocking the ironic t-shirt. He is totally a baby hipster.
It sounds totally weird, but John Paul and Cecilia LOVE frozen mixed vegetables. Like, when they're still frozen. We buy huge bags of organic mixed veggies from Costco and just give them little bowls to snack on. Maybe Hugo would be up for that?
